  Russia pounds Kyiv in hours-long overnight barrage — ballistics, Onyx, jet-powered Shaheds

  Russian forces launched a sustained overnight attack into Aug. 27 combining Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Bryansk and Kursk, two Onyx anti-ship missiles from occupied Crimea, and waves of attack drones — including the newer jet-powered Shahed variants. A high school in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district was heavily damaged and residential buildings were hit across the capital. Debris landed in Podilskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Five Russian drones also violated Moldovan airspace during the strike. The day before, an FPV drone conducted a double-tap attack on rescuers in Kramatorsk. Ukraine's HUR says Russia now fields up to 17 modified S-400 launchers configured for ground-attack ballistic strikes — expanding the arsenal aimed at cities.
